Our inaugural Music at the Museum concert for the 2015-2016 season started the year off with a Здравствуйте, as we celebrated the works of 20th century Russian and Soviet composers, including Shostakovich, Taktakishvilli, Stravinsky, Schnittke, and Prokofiev! The afternoon started with a lecture from pianist Yevgeny Morozov on the composers in the program, the history of Western classical music in Russia, and studying music in the Soviet Union. The concert started soon after with performances from Mr. Morozov, violinist Hyeri Choi, pianist Anna Vasilyeva, and flautist Amy Tu.
The concert was accentuated by the Zimmerli’s diverse collection of Russian and Soviet Nonconformist art. After the concert, museum patrons and audience members were treated to a tour of the Zimmerli Art Museum. All in all, it was an afternoon filled with art, music, and fun!
Our next concert in the Music at the Museum series is entitled Cello Extravaganza, and will be held on November 15th at 2 PM! As with all of our Music at the Museum concerts, there will be a pre-concert forum led by one of the Extension Division faculty members at 1 PM. We hope to see you there!
