On October 19th, the Zimmerli Art Museum opened their doors to the faculty members of the Mason Gross Extension Division to inaugurate a new concert series, celebrating the partnership of the two artistic departments. Music at the Museum was created as a way to share the music of the Mason Gross Extension Division Faculty and the artists on display at the Zimmerli Art Museum. Over 130 guests packed in to enjoy a pastiche of short classical pieces performed by members of the Mason Gross Extension Division’s Faculty.
Music at the Museum is a perfect venue for all ages. At the first concert, parents held their children on their laps and bounced them to the melody of the music of the performing trio featuring Brennan Sweet, Mira Kang, and Allison Brewster Franzetti. Grammy award winning pianist, Ms. Brewster Franzetti, guided the audience in listening to the various moods of Dvorak’s Dumky Trio. Mr. Sweet explained how Jewish folk tunes were uniquely employed by Soviet composer, Dmitri Schstokovitch.
The concert ended in a rousing applause while the trio took their bows.
Both ‘Jazz After Hours’ and ‘Music at the Museum’ concerts will continue throughout the year. Information is available through the Mason Gross Extension Division and the Zimmerli Museum.
